From Thursday 18th to Sunday 21st April we will celebrate the seventy-eighth birthday of the Vespa, the iconic Piaggio vehicle.
The "Vespa" was born on 23 April 1946 and, since then, its success has been unstoppable. Excellence of Made in Italy and one of the best known symbols of the Italian lifestyle.
This year the celebration will be triple, in fact not only will the seventy-eight years of the Vespa be celebrated, but also the 140 years of Piaggio and the first century of activity of the Pontedera factory.
The 2024 edition is intended for the "Tuscan Experience", a festival dedicated not only to two wheels, but also to the territory, gastronomy and culture of the region that gave birth to the Vespa.
Pontedera is in fact preparing to welcome more than twenty thousand people from all over the world, offering patrons excursions, tours and events connected to the gathering.
There are many appointments on the calendar, we leave some of them below.
Thursday 18th April
The dance will open on Thursday 18 April at 9am with the opening of the Piaggio Museum and the tasting of zero km Tuscan excellences in Viale Rinaldo Piaggio, and then continue with the photographic exhibition "Pontedera in Vespa" at the Crec Piaggio and at the Piaggio Village.
At 3pm VWD2024 will start at the Vespa Village, while at 4pm two tours will start, one to Peccioli, the village of contemporary art, and the one dedicated to the discovery of Pontedera.
Friday 19th April
There will also be no shortage of scheduled events on Friday 19th, the tours will begin in the morning and the calendar will be very busy, from 9.30 there will be four routes available:
Lajatico with the theater of silence strongly desired by Bocelli;
the castle tour;
the route dedicated to Pisa;
one day in Volterra.
In the morning, in the city, there will be many art-related events, such as the "Vespart" exhibition at the "PALP" Palazzo Pretorio. If, however, you wish to see the colorful mopeds in action, from 10am, you can attend the gymkhana, with the relative awards ceremony at the Vespa Village. The evening will end in Piazza del Mercato.
Saturday 20th April
Saturday will be the big day of the parade which will start at 10am, with a very long chrome queue that will invade the streets and villages of Valdera.
From 2pm to 7pm, however, at the Vespa Village you will find the Italian stage of the Vespa Rally European Championship 2024, the amateur sporting event with skill tests.
While the elegance competition dedicated to all the models built between 1946 and 1970 will start at 3.30pm. In the evening, various DJ sets will await you in the city squares, while the VWD gala evening will begin at 5pm with awards and surprises for all Vespa enthusiasts.
Sunday 21st April
On Sunday, to conclude this edition full of events and awaiting the closing ceremony, scheduled for 3.30pm, we would like to point out the blessing of the Vespa at the Vespa Village at 10.30am and the break dancing competition at the Piaggio Village.
